Today's Spotlight is on POLE MOTION!

I have another new Twitter friend that I would like to add to our happy pole circle.  This is Nikki from Pole Motion!

What is your fitness background?
I've always been sporty, I did athletics at school and played badminton for my country.  As I got older I got into going to the gym and like to hit the weights rather than gym classes.  I discovered pole dancing just over a year ago and have never looked back.  I love the social aspect and how everyone supports each other in class when learning new moves and how pole dancing it is such an all over body workout and much more fun than the gym.

What is your fitness routine (on and off the pole)?

I go to a pole dancing class once a week and also go to the gym at least once a week with my husband.  I also have a pole at home in the garage and try to practice at least once a week.

What kind of diet do you follow?
I try to eat healthily and not eat too many carbs but I have a sweet tooth so it doesn't always go to plan. I am also addicted to protein bars so I can get my chocolate fix when I am hungry in between meals. My husband is following the four hour body eating program by Tim Ferriss, so I end up eating a lot of the same meals which is a lot of protein, vegetables and beans.

Do you have a dance background?
I was always a tom boy at school so never got into dance.

Do you compete (pole fitness or any other kind of fitness competitions)?
I've never competed and prefer to be behind the scenes, although Pole Motion does sponsor a lot of competitions and offer prizes for the winners, upcoming competitions we [attended] the UK Amateur Pole Performer on 24th September and the UK Professional Pole Championship on 11th December.

What interested you about pole dancing?
It was something I had wanted to try for a while and when we moved out of London to Surrey I found a school close by.  I also loved the idea of the challenge as i have never done dance or gymnastics so I knew I'd have to work hard at it.

Do you have a preference? "pole fitness" or "pole dancing"
I like to say 'pole dancing fitness'

What do you think about the stripper vs. pole fitness debate?
Pole dancing can be whatever you want it to be and everyone is different.  Some people want to be sexy and dance in heels, other people want to do it for fitness in bare foot.  We at pole motion are all about promoting the fitness benefits of pole dancing and the versatility of the pole as a piece of fitness kit to a wider audience, but you are always going to get people who link it to stripping and not open to seeing it as a something you can do for fitness.

What is your favorite product to help you stick to the pole?
Dry Hands is the product that works best for me

How do you deal with the dry skin on pole days (and on off-pole days)?
I don't suffer too much as I've never been good at keeping up the beauty regime and always applying moisturiser like I know I should, but do get callouses on my hands.

Where do you like to buy your pole clothes?
Mika Yoga Wear is my favourite and we sell it in the UK at polemotion.com.  The shorts are so cute and they come is lots of different colours.  The new Peacock Green is my favourite.

Do you like to dance in heels or barefoot?
As I've said before I've always been a tom boy and am more at home in trainers than heels so I pole dance barefoot. Sometimes I wear foot thongs if I am practicing dance moves so my feet don't stick to the floor when doing pirouettes for example.

What did you do before starting Pole Motion?
My other job is in music PR running my company Global Publicity which specialises in promoting international music festivals. I have been working in the music business for over 15 years.

How did you come up with the name?
We wanted to have a word that related to movement and also find a name that no one had used before which was actually really hard. The end result was Pole Motion.

What is your favorite thing about dancing on the pole?
It's hard to have one favourite thing about pole dancing but I think for me it's the challenge.  Trying to master a new move can take weeks, but the feeling you get once you've got it is amazing - much more exhilarating that doing 10 reps of a heavy weight at the gym or running your fastest 5k.

What is your favorite song to dance to (at this moment)?
Most recently when doing pole practice at home it's been Micky Slim & Emma Hewitt 'Tonight' on Cr2 Records.

Do you have any other upcoming events you'd like people to know about?
Upcoming competitions we [attended] the UK Amateur Pole Performer on 24th September and the UK Professional Pole Championship on 11th December.

What else would you like people to know about you or Pole Motion?

Well, if you're into pole dancing fitness check out our website polemotion.com where you can buy, clothing, DVD's, poles etc and I look forward to making more friends within the pole community as I've met some great people so far who have really inspired me.
